SeaAhead, National Grid, and the Cambridge Innovation Center established the RI BlueGreen Innovation Challenge to support novel approaches to interconnected challenges in Rhode Island. This systems innovation Challenge will leverage one of the state’s key assets – its college students – to conceive and develop big ideas at the energy-food-urban community-coastal nexus. The Challenge will build on Rhode Island’s track record of impactful student-driven open innovation, such as Farm Fresh RI and the Providence pedestrian bridge. Rhode Island’s ambitious climate and clean energy goals make this the opportune time for our next generation of leaders to think BIG.
SeaAhead will work with its partner CIC running this systems innovation competition out of Providence (and virtually, as covid19 safety protocols dictate), seeking solutions to challenges at the intersection of sustainable energy, offshore wind, green/smart ports, local seafood and urban food systems, urban mobility, and coastal resilience. The program is tailored to RI’s strengths and ecosystem, with the goal of developing actionable solutions that National Grid and other key Stakeholders may be able to help implement following the competition. And winning teams will receive cash prizes!
You can find a link to our interview about the program with National Grid RI President Terry Sobolewski here and his recent op-ed in the Providence Journal in which he mentioned the Challenge.
