2019 New England Regional MATE Student ROV Competition – Volunteers Needed

February 20, 2019 By MOTN

MATE New England Regional Competition

Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center

Each year the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center sponsors a student ROV competition for middle, high school and college students.

Teams are given a mission task and a set of specifications for their ROV. Teams are then responsible for the design and construction of their ROV to accomplish the required task. During the competition, teams are judged on their technical report, poster, engineering presentation, and completing the mission in the pool.

Regional competitions are held around the world with the winners of the high school level advancing to the international competition. New England hosts one of those regional competitions.

This year’s MATE New England Regional Competition is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 4 at Sandwich High School in Sandwich, MA.

As usual we are putting out a call for volunteers to help with the running of the event. We can use anyone who is interested, you don’t have to scientifically inclined. If you are interested in volunteering, or would like more information, please email me at chrisjakubiak@hotmail.com. We’re also specifically looking for people who are divers to assist with the props, also people who are willing to help score the teams tech reports prior to the competition. Also email me if your company or institution is interested in having a display at the event.

Please feel free to distribute this to anyone you think may be interested.

Cheers,

Chris Jakubiak

New England MATE Regional Coordinator
